From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Mediation, a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties. A third party, the mediator, assists the parties to negotiate their own settlement (facilitative mediation). In some cases, mediators may express a view on what might be a fair or reasonable settlement, generally where all the parties agree that the mediator may do so (evaluative mediation). Mediation has a structure, timetable and dynamics that "ordinary" negotiation lacks. The process is private and confidential. The presence of a mediator is the key distinguishing feature of the process. There may be no obligation to go to mediation, but in some cases, any settlement agreement signed by the parties to a dispute will be binding on them. Views on the efficacy of mediation vary, but in some jurisdictions, senior members of the judiciary (judges in the Supreme Court) favour the use of mediation.{SSRN: http://ssrn.com/abstract=1599420} Mediators use various techniques to open, or improve, dialogue between disputants, aiming to help the parties reach an agreement (with concrete effects) on the disputed matter. Much depends on the mediator's skill and training. The mediator must be wholly impartial. Disputants may use mediation in a variety of disputes, such as commercial, legal, diplomatic, workplace, community and family matters. A third-party representative may contract and mediate between (say) unions and corporations. When a workers’ union goes on strike, a dispute takes place, the parties may agree to a third party to settle a contract or agreement between the union and the corporation. Q. preferably somethiing with sitar solo or sitar and orchestra Asked by amunefuset - Mon Apr 21 10:09:39 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. One of my favorite to meditate to is "Tamboura" Perhaps you already know, but I was surprised when learned, much of the sound I associated to a sitar is from the accompanying instrument tamboura (sometimes tanpura, tambura). As I understand, there is no melodic line with a tamboura (that is the role of sitar); A tamboura is just a repetitive drone. If you listen to the audio sample at above link, the cd is 70 uninterrupted minutes of that drone sound. You can listen to any 10 second sample from anywhere on the cd and it will sound pretty much exactly like any where else on the cd. I like this for meditating because there is no evolving/developing melody line to distract the mind, or allow it to judge/reference the passing of… [cont.] Answered by Dances with Buddha - Tue Apr 22 18:02:03 2008 is it ok for guys too...? Q. Basically I've emailed her saying that I think I should take a few outcome measures (personality variables) out of my study. this is because initially I was testing a mediational hyp and now I'm not, having realised it wasnt feasible. The main construct is related to these personality variables, and to the main neuropsych test I'm using. Because of this the personality variables are in limbo and I don't really have any predictions about them. I could make predictions in relation to binge eating, or in relation to the neuropsych test... if I use them to predict neuropsych performance, I don't have much lit to back them up with. Trouble is I don't really get what she's saying! She said I should leave the personality variables out if I… [cont.] Asked by Ju C - Thu Mar 20 11:22:12 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. What your supervisor is probably trying to highlight, is that it is absolutely essential that you have a sound theoretical rationale for each variable you intend to measure, and for each instrument you plan to use to assess it. Formulating your research question is FIRST. It is very important to remember that. In addition, it is important to avoid that temptation to design a study around your instruments - choice of instruments should be secondary (though very important). Take a few moments to sit down and think about what, precisely, it is that you want to explore. Write out your research questions. That's what a study begins with (the research question). After you've written the question - look at what variables you will need to… [cont.] Answered by michele - Thu Mar 20 11:38:17 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "mediational" Performance of mixed effects models in the analysis of mediated longitudinal data
